Layering Staples You Need This Fall/Winter

When the weather cools down and you find yourself struggling to find an outfit that works both indoors and outside, the first thing to turn to is layering. Whether it’s wearing a turtleneck under a sweater vest or throwing a chunky sweater over a slip dress, there are endless possibilities to stocking up on your layers this season to stay stylish and warm. Keep reading to learn about our favorite layering pieces and techniques.

The Hoodie

Easy to throw on over a t-shirt or lightweight turtleneck, a hoodie can be worn anywhere and paired with anything. Our Full Zipper Hoodie can be worn at a half-zip to show off what you’re wearing underneath. When you need extra warmth, throw on an oversized blazer or a wool coat and pop on the hood for a little extra edge and dash of color.

The Turtleneck Sweater

A clear staple that can be worn under any jacket or coat, a turtleneck sweater also allows you to keep wearing your favorite summer dress in the colder months. You can wear your favorite slip dresses and spaghetti straps this winter with our tight-fit Ribbed Turtleneck Basic Sweater. Grab a couple of neutral shades that will go with any summer dress. You can even wear a turtleneck under your favorite strappy lace cami tucked into some wide-leg beige trousers or your favorite pair of jeans.

The V-Neck Sweater

For a preppy look, throw on your favorite button-down shirt with a popped collar under our V-Neck Basic Sweater. Leave the first and last buttons unbuttoned for a more relaxed look and add a pair of patterned pants for some extra flair. Alternatively, you can wear your v-neck sweater over a summer maxi dress to turn it into a skirt and throw on an oversized belt for some waist definition. With some knee-high boots, you can create a perfect color-blocking situation while staying cozy.

The Vest

There’s nothing more versatile than a sweater vest. Our V-Neck Basic Vest Sweater can be worn true-to-size under a blazer, oversized as a dress over your favorite long-sleeve, tucked into jeans with a plain tee underneath, or over a turtleneck with your favorite work pants. For a more jazzed-up look, you can pair it with a blouse with balloon sleeves. Don’t forget to mix and match your prints! Stripes, houndstooth, polka dots, and argyle can all spice up this popular layered look.

The Long Cardigan

Our Open Front Long Cardigan with Pockets can serve as your outer layer if you’re wearing a lightweight top underneath, but can also be your middle layer if you choose to add a third piece such as a blazer, coat, or oversized scarf. If you have a belt in hand, your cardigan can be easily converted into a dress-like silhouette. For more texture, add an unbuttoned lightweight denim jacket between your first layer and the cardigan. Roll up the sleeves of the denim jacket over your cardigan for that extra attention.
